New York: Published by the American Tract Society, No. 144 Nassau St., [1833]. [1833]. Fair 
- 24mo, 4-3/8 inches high by 2-3/4 inches wide. Softcover, bound in printed yellow paper wrappers. Titled with a vignette within a floral decorated border on the front cover and with ads for the American Tract Society's publications printed within a decorated frame on the rear cover. The covers are stained and wraps are splitting along the bottom of the spine. The corners are creased. 16 pages, illustrated with a title page vignette, a full-page woodcut and 19 woodcut vignettes. The full-page woodcut is partially hand-colored by a child. There is foxing and staining throughout and several page corners are creased. An early owner's name is penned above ink scribbling on the rear of the front cover with some ink smudges to the title page.

The text consists of hymns and poems based on texts from the Scriptures. "No. 20" is printed at the head of the title.

The American Tract Society was located at 144 Nassau St. in New York from 1827 to 1833. This little book is number XX of Series II.

Very good. - 12mo [approximately 4-1/4 inches high by 3 inches wide], softcover bound in printed yellow wrappers sewn with cream cord & titled within a decorative border in brown on the front cover. There is a very narrow strip out of the lower half of the front cover's edge. 8 pages. Illustrated with an engraving on the first text page. The first 3 leaves are miscut with a tiny chip & a very narrow strip out of the lower half of each front edge. There is a light crease across the bottom corner of each page. Very good.

American Tract Society No. 32. An ink note at the bottom of the front wrap, possibly by the publisher, states "To replace no. 28'.

A three-page introduction on Soviet publishing explains that every year during the spring school vacation a tradition "Children's Book Week" is held in the Soviet Union. Activities include conferences of children's writers and their readers, literary parties and gatherings, book exhibits and large-scale book bazaars. The introduction concludes: "We express our sincere appreciation to the American public for its great interest and co-operation in organising the present exhibition and hope that this constructive project will serve to further the cultural co- operation between our two countries". This pamphlet thus appears to have prepared by a Soviet organization to accompany an exhibition in America.

Very good. - sc A superb 10 inch high by 8-3/4 inch wide chromolithograph from "Little Charley's Visit: What He Saw in Central Park", depicting the young boy Charley, seated on a camel handled by a colorfully dressed Zouave in full attire and turbaned headdress. Two young girls are seen in the background rolling a hoop in front of one of Central Park's lovely stone overpasses. There are some minor tears to the left margin and stab marks to the right edge, none of which affects the image. This lovely print is handsomely mounted, with glue along the edges of the verso, into a handsome brick red mat.

This print is from an exceedingly rare book. It was probably from the series "The Juvenile Classics from the Rutherford Park Press".

A handsomely attired black man, in top hat and long black coat stands next to the goats near the head of the carriage, with a whip loosely held in his hands. The childrens' mother stands at the left of the image, her white gloved hand raised as if addressing the children. A small tear and stab marks along the right margin do not affect the image. This lovely print is handsomely mounted, with glue along the edges of the verso, into a handsome brick red mat.

This print is from an exceedingly rare book. It was probably from the series "The Juvenile Classics from the Rutherford Park Press".
