14 (Schwilgue) A SUPERB COLOR POSTCARD OF THE SCHWILGUE ASTRONOMICAL CLOCK IN THE STRASBOURG CATHEDRAL, WITH A WONDERFUL MOVEABLE WHEEL WHEREBY THE SAINTS CAN MOVE N A PROCESSION WITHIN THE TOP WINDOW OF THE CLOCK, ENTITLED "L'HORLOGE ASTRONOMIQUE DE LA CATHEDRALE."
Strasbourg: Published by Felix Luib, circa [1910]. [1910]. Very good
Strasbourg: Published by Felix Luib, circa [1910].. [1910].. Very good. - sc A 5-7/8 inch high by 3-3/4 inch wide brightly colored postcard depicting the astronomical clock in the Strasbourg Cathedral. The postcard has a moving wheel, whereby the Saints can move in a window at the top of the clock, in some way depicting the movement of the fantastic mechanism which Schwilgue built for the actual clock. Carriages also move in a window at the bottom as the wheel is turned. A lengthy historical description is printed in French on the verso. There is minor rubbing to the top corners of the opening through which are viewed the various scenes. The address section of the postcard is unused. A wonderful transformation card.

Located in the Cathedral Notre-Dame of Strasbourg in Alsace, the Strasbourg Astronomical Clock (dating from 1843) is the third one to occupy that honored spot. As pictured by the postcard, the clock itself features a perpetual calendar, an orrery or planetary dial, a display of the real positions of the sun and moon with lunar and solar eclipses, and a procession of the figures of Christ and the Apostles.
