There is an owner's ink inscription & a later owner's stamp on the front pastedown & the lower half of the front endpaper is lacking. The rear endpaper is torn & creased & there are tears & creases to the front edge of the last text page. There is foxing throughout. Fair.

Rare. WorldCat locates only 2 copies. However, one of these (the Morgan Library copy), is probably an error and is in reality an 1842 book.

RARE. We are unable to locate any other copies of this book.

Contains "Joseph and His Brethren", the "Death of Abel", the "Building of the Ark", "Abraham Offering Up His Son", "Moses in the Bullrushes", "Samson Carrying the Gates of Gaza", the "Death of Goliath" and "Daniel in the Lion's Den".

Across his chest he is holding a placard on which Zaremba has signed his name in full with the date "96".

As related in the introduction, Richard Meade Bache [1830-1907], the author of this sea-going adventure book for boys, was the great-great grandson of Benjamin Franklin and came from an extended family of sailors, adventurers, scientists and soldiers.. From his own experience and the studies of his father, Hartman Bache, he acquired an intimate knowledge of the customs, lifestyle, lore, weather and typography of the Florida Keys of 1839 and 1840 and parts of his book are based on historical incidents, such as the Seminole attack on Indian Key.

Tom Corcoran is a Florida-based writer of mystery novels. He is also the author of three books on classic Ford Mustangs. First Edition.
