After working in mines, railroads and ironworks, Jan Byrtus was able to turn his passionate hobby of photography into a career, working as a photojournalist and later as a photographer in the publicity department of the Trinec ironworks. He is known for his concern with the problems of human work and the working environment. Most of the photos reproduced here are of industrial landscapes and laborers at work.
