A RARE INSCRIBED & SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF THE AMERICAN FILM DIRECTOR SAMUEL FULLER, Fuller, Samuel (1912-1997). Great American Film Director
205 Fuller, Samuel (1912-1997). Great American Film Director A RARE INSCRIBED & SIGNED PHOTOGRAPH OF THE AMERICAN FILM DIRECTOR SAMUEL FULLER
Circa [1970]. [1970]. Fine Signed
Circa [1970].. [1970].. Fine. - sc An original 5-3/4 inch high by 4 inch wide glossy color photograph on FujiChrome photo stock. The bold image depicts the American film director Samuel Fuller in three-quarter profile from the chest up. Dressed in a light gray jacket over a pin-striped vest and white shirt, the white-maned director holds an ever-present cigar aloft. Inscribed in block letters penned in blue ink "Luck to both of you," and signed in full "Samuel Fuller". The letter "B" in "both" is slightly smudged. Near fine.

Samuel Fuller, known for his early low-budget movies with controversial themes, inspired and influenced many independent directors including Quentin Tarrantino, Jim Jarmusch, and Martin Scorcese. His pulp-inspired dialogue and spare precise style was strongly influenced by his early work as a journalist and crime reporter. The director of "The Steel Helmet", "Pick Up on South Street", "Shock Corridor", and "The Naked Kiss", moved to France after the studio refused to release his film based on Romain Gary's "White Dog". The French New Wave claimed him as one of theirs and as a major influence on their style.
