ORIGINAL POSTER SIGNED BY THE ARTIST JANE DYER - sc - An 18 inch high by 27-1/2 inch wide color poster for the illustrated children's book by Mem Fox. The poster is illustrated with Jane Dyer's depiction of a little yellow gosling, yawning as it spreads it tiny wings beneath the protective wings of a magnificent white goose. Titled at left within a frame set against the dark blue starry sky. The author and illustrator's names are printed along the bottom margin. The poster is signed and dated in blue ink at right under the image "Jane Dyer 1993". Folded vertically and horizontally for mailing, there are creases along the right edge of the poster and tiny creases to the top corners. Very good.

There is a gift inscription on the front endpaper with the recipient's name penned on the front pastedown. Good.

A limited complimentary edition published as a Christmas 1939 gift book for friends of the publisher. A trade edition under the title "Hound Dog Moses and the Promised Land" was not published until 1954.

Edmonds writes about a hunting dog seeking admission to heaven from St. Peter.

Illustrated with 20 wood-engraved plates & with head- and tail-pieces. There is an 1882 ink gift inscription on the front endpaper. There is occasional foxing & staining & the book is slightly cocked. Good.

A title in the series "Midwinter Tales".The author of the book, "F.F.", is possibly the American children's book writer Fanny Fern, pseudonym of Sara Willis. Daniel Lothrop published at Franklin Street Boston from !875 to 1887.

Plate 5 is signed "K. P.", plate 11 "Kilburn" and plate 12 "W. L. S."

Rare. No copies of this work were found in WorldCat. Dust jacket present.

The stained and chipped covers are nearly detached. There are pieces out from the corners of the covers and from in inner edge of the rear cover. 14 unnumbered pages, including the covers, illustrated with 5 bright color plates by Hector Giacomelli. The pages are darkened and soiled with a tiny tear to the front edges of the pages and pieces chipped from the corners.

The French watercolorist, engraver and illustrator Hector Giacomelli (1822-1904) is perhaps best known for his paintings of birds. Making a good living drawing plants, insects and birds, he also worked with Gustave Dore, composing ornaments for "The Holy Bible according to the Vulgate" and contributed works to "Le Monde Illustre", "Le Magasine Pittoresque" and "L'Illustration". He was one of the organizers of the exposition of the century of prints and fine arts retrospective section at the Paris Universal Exposition of 1889.

The poster is illustrated in color with Steven Kellogg's image of a young man attired in a suit with high peaked cowboy hat and plaid jacket decorated by stars with hands on his waist. A younger boy's face is being licked by one of three dragons hatching from eggs in front of the pair as a startled dog looks on. A large cheerful looking dragon observes from behind the young man's shoulder, filling the whole of the background. Titled at the top with credits at the bottom, the poster is signed in black ink at the top left of the image by Steve Kellogg, with the word "from" penned within a drawing of a heart. Folded twice, else very good.
