This was the first American appearance of Gabriel Garcia Marquez' story "Chronicle of a Death Foretold", translated by Gregory Rabassa. It is illustrated by Fernando Botero with three full-page illustrations, two in color and one is black & red, and with black-and-white textual illustrations. There is also a caricature of Marquez by David Levine on the contents page.

Vanity Fair ceased publication during the Depression. This is the first issue of its revived version published in February 1983 (cover date March 1983) .Among the other contents are contributions by Calvin Trillin, Gore Vidal, Nora Ephron, Richard Avedon, James Merrill and Stephen Jay Gould. Karin Boye [1900-1941] was a Swedish poet and novelist best known for her poems and her novel "Kallocain" inspired by her visit to the Soviet Union in 1928 and her visit to Germany during the rise of the Nazis. The novel was filmed in Sweden in 1981. Until 1930, Boye was a member of the Swedish Clarte League, a socialist group. Together with Erik Mesterton and Josef Riwkin, she founded the poetry magazine Spektrum in 1931, and she was a member of the Swedish literary institution Samfundet De Nio from 1931 until her death.

From the library of Hettie Gray Baker with her bookplate on the front pastedown. Another of her bookplates of a different design has been signed by Louise Schutz Boas along the bottom edge and is mounted on the front pastedown, partiallly covering the original bookplate. Tipped in on the front endpaper is a one-page TLS to Hettie Gray Baker signed in full by Boas. Boas thanks Gray for her letter of appreciation and her bookplate and describes her own family bookplate of which she is sending Gray a copy.

Hettie Gray Baker (1881-1957), was a pioneer woman in the film industry. As a film editor and writer she contributed to numerous films, including writing scenario and story scripts for several silent films based on Jack London classics. Among these were "Burning Daylight: The Adventures of 'Burning Daylight' in Alaska" (1914), "The Valley of the Moon" (1914), and "The Chechako" (1914). She edited legendary Western film director John Ford's early film "The Iron Horse" (1924). She later became known for her knowledge of Siamese cats and wrote several cat books, including "Cat Tales" published by Farrar Strauss and Young. First Edition.
