They may even go back beyond the visigoth and the Roman, to the original Iberic stock, which was Celtic. In Celtic regions the pig is much valued, and is the most important domestic animal...." N.d. [circa 1923-1926]. N.d. [circa 1923-1926]. Very good Signed
N.d. [circa 1923-1926].. N.d. [circa 1923-1926].. Very good. - Small quarto [9-5/8 inches high by 9 inches wide], pictorial boards backed with red cloth and bound with gold cord. The boards are darkened & the rear board is detached. There are large pieces out of the spine. 12 vibrant hand-colored plates by Thea Friedener, each illustrating a month of the year. The first plate is signed in full & the remaining plates are signed with the artist's initials. The top margins of the plates are darkened but the illustrations are otherwise clean and bright. A rare item that could easily be repaired.

The label of the Frankl Gallery is mounted on the inside rear board. According to Christopher Long, author of "Paul T. Frankl and Modern American Design", this apparently handmade book was almost certainly purchased by Paul Frankl or his wife on one of their buying trips to Europe in the early 1920s and sold through their New York Gallery. The label in the book dates from the period 1923-1926. "The artist is probably either German or Danish; the images are typical of the sort of folk art the Frankls sold in their gallery before they introduced modernism. Frankl didn't start selling modernist works until the end of 1925 or the beginning of 1926".
