TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY WILLIAM MENNEN, BYPASSING A LOCAL DRUGGIST TO SEND THE RECIPIENT BOTTLES OF MENNEN SKIN BRACER, Mennen, William. President of The Mennen Company
81 Mennen, William. President of The Mennen Company TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY WILLIAM MENNEN, BYPASSING A LOCAL DRUGGIST TO SEND THE RECIPIENT BOTTLES OF MENNEN SKIN BRACER
Newark, NJ: February 21, 1945. 1945. Very good Signed
Newark, NJ: February 21, 1945.. 1945.. Very good. - A letter dated February 21, 1945 filling one side of a sheet of cream Mennen Company letterhead with the address and "Office of the President" printed in green at the top. Signed "William Mennen". There are 2 small pencil notations at the top of the letterhead and a red ink stamp below the signature. Folded twice for mailing. Very good.

A fascinating wartime corporate letter to a recipient who has evidently been unable to obtain Mennen Skin Bracer at his local drugstore. Mennen explains that until the previous year "100% of our Skin Bracer output went to the armed forces". They have now been able to get more alcohol and are releasing supplies for civilian use. The recipient's druggist should be able to obtain some from his wholesaler, "but in all probability he will have to place a reasonbly sized order of other Mennen merchandise for his wholesaler to release any Skin Bracer to him. I understand the drug wholesalers, just like anyone else, are resorting to these tactics these days..." Sending the recipient three bottles, he writes: "Please do not let your druggist know of this service on our part or we will get in trouble".

Mennen introduced the first shaving cream tube in 1912. Its Speed Stick and Skin Bracer, now owned by Colgate, are still popular items.

"Rokitansky rightly may be regarded as the finest anatomical pathologist of his age. It was largely through his influence that the Vienna School reblossomed into world prominence. Although he never practiced medicine, his studies and descriptions of structural changes in disease, based on over 30,000 autopsies performed while he was director of Vienna’s Pathological Institute, had an enormous impact on clinical medicine. ... Not without its shortcomings, the work includes Rokitansky's anachronistic humoral disease theory which was criticized by Virchow ... Rokitansky admitted the error and rewrote the entire work." - Heirs of Hyppocrates, #920, citing the first edition (Vienna 1842-46). First Edition.
