SIGNED BY THE NEWBERY MEDAL WINNING AUTHOR-ILLUSTRATOR MARGERITE DE ANGELI - Octavo, green cloth titled in silver on the spine with a vignette of a sword & helmet stamped in silver on the front cover, in a color pictorial dust wrapper. The dust jacket is lightly soiled and a very small section of the jacket's spine is rubbed away. 111 & [1] pages with pictorial endpapers, full-page and textual black & white illustrations and 3 color plates, 1 of them double-page, by the author. Near fine in very good dust wrapper.

Signed in full by author-illustrator Marguerite de Angeli on the title page and dated 1950.

De Angeli won the Newbery Medal for her story, set in fourteenth-century England, about the disabled son of a great lord, who proves his courage and wins the king's recognition. The Newberry Medal seal is mounted on the dust wrapper. Dust jacket present.
