- Quarto [11 inches high by 8-1/2 inches wide], softcover bound in colorful wrappers with the front wrap titled in Yiddish and the rear wrap in English. The covers are designed and illustrated by Jos. Raskovitz. There is some light soiling & rubbing to the wraps with minor chipping to the tail of the spine. There is a vertical crease down the center of the English language cover with some minor creasing to the edges. A recipient's name and address is stamped to the left of a postage stamp at the bottom of the Yiddish cover. 29 and 25 pages with text in English & Yiddish, plus a double-page centerfold illustration and several black & white textual illustrations. The page corners are slightly creased. Very good. Nailebn describes itself as "the only Jewish-English magazine devoted to information on Biro-Bidjan". The city of Birobidzhan, established in 1931, became the administrative center of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Russia in 1934. It is located on the Trans-Siberian Railway near the border with China. Nailebn published articles, photographs, poetry, fiction, humor and satire conveying a comprehensive picture of life in the Jewish autonomous region. Among the articles in this issue are "The Shame of the Jewish People" by A. Rovner and "Historic Document on the Crimes of the Polish Government Against Its Jewish Population" The text is in Yiddish with an English version in the rear.
