In his April 30 letter, Maude replies to an April 15th, 1927 letter from American impresario James Pond [of which a carbon copy is included] in which Pond writes that he is coming to England and would like to further discuss the idea of Maude undertaking a lecture tour in America under his auspices. Maude writes: "I should love to welcome you here when you are in England. I can't make up my mind about that lecture tour!!!" Pond writes back on May 11, 1927 [carbon copy included] and suggests visiting Maude in June "with a friend of mine who is a great enthusiast in theatre". Maude replies in his typed letter of May 24 suggesting dates for the visit: "I might be able to put you both up for a night - but of that I am just a bit uncertain as I may have a houseful....I am very doubtful about that lecture tour this year - but I am open to persuasion!!" He writes in his P.S.: "In case I can't put you up that hotel in Dartmouth is The Raleigh but don't expect a Biltmore or Plaza!"
