1 Piatti, Alfredo. (1822-1901). Italian cellist who made a successful career in England. AUTOGRAPH MUSICAL QUOTATION SIGNED.
Circa 1880. 1880. Very good
- Small quarto [approximately 5-3/4 inches high by 4-1/4 inches wide]. 4 bars of music for flute elegantly penned in black ink on cream stock, inscribed "To my little friend Arthur Schwabe" and signed "Alfred Piatti". There are some small, light stains to the paper & fragments of gray stock adhere to the right margin of the verso where the piece has been removed from an album. Very good.

The son of a violinist, Alfredo Piatti began his studies on the violin before taking up the cello and becoming one of the most celebrated cellists of his day, as popular for the pieces he wrote as for the vigorous, unsentimental way he performed them. In 1844, he appeared before a London audience at a Philharmonic Concert. He premiered a duo for cello and piano by British composer William Sterndale Bennett. In 1859, with the founding of the Popular Concerts, Piatti begin working with the series, retaining the post of first violoncello until 1897.
