- Octavo, green cloth titled and decorated in gilt on the spine with a device in gilt front cover. The covers are slightly rubbed and soiled. 451 pages plus 8 pages of publisher's ads, illustrated with a title page vignette, a full-page frontispiece and 5 full-page plates. The front hinge is cracked and an early inscription, dated Dec. 25, 1869", presenting the book as a prize for the "recitation of lessons", is penned in ink on the front blank. The rear blanks and endpapers are darkened. Overall, a very good bright and attractive copy. First edition.
