	1	Abbott, Jacob. (1803-1879). GEORGIE by Jacob Abbott. The Rollo Story Books. Boston: Phillips, Sampson & Company, (1857). (1857). Good - Small octavo [approximately 6-3/8 inches high by 4 inches wide], brown cloth titled in gilt on the front cover, in blind on the rear cover & in gilt with decorations in gilt on the spine. The covers are rubbed, bumped & chipped. The head & tail of the spine are chipped & the gilt on the spine is faded. Title, [1] leaf & pages [163]-191. Illustrated with a black-and-white frontispiece & a textual woodcut. There is an owner's faded ink name dated 1868 on the front endpaper. There is light staining to the front & bottom edges of the endpaper & to the front edges of the leaves throughout, with a short tear to the front edge of the flyleaf. There is occasional foxing & soiling. Good. A separate issue of the sixth story in Abbott's Rollo at Work. Price: 125.00 USD

Good - Small octavo, reddish brown cloth titled in brown within decorations in gilt on the spine and with frames & decorations in blind on both covers. The covers are rubbed & bumped with their edges slightly faded & there are pieces out of the head & tail of the spine.189 pages plus 10-page publisher's catalog. Extra engraved title & 4 plates, some of them signed John Minton. There is an owner's pencil signature on the front endpaper. There is occasional staining & light soiling. Good. Price: 25.00 USD

Abbott, Jacob. THE YOUNG CHRISTIAN: A familiar illustration of the principles of Christian duty.
American Tract Society, (1832). (1832). Very good
- Octavo, bound in brown calf backed black textured paper covered boards (bumped & rubbed) titled in gilt between gilt rules on spine. 395 pages, illustrated with a full-page frontispiece and a pictorial title page. One page is detached, but present. An early owner's contemporary ink inscription is penned on the front endpaper above a later collector's stamp. There is scattered light staining & foxing throughout. Overall, an attractive book.

From the Skating Collection of Arthur N. Foxe who wrote a bibliography of skating. A psychiatrist, Dr. Foxe also authored a little book about Poe and hypnosis. The book was undoubtedly part of his collection due to the title page illustration which depicts 2 young men lacing up skates on an ice covered pond, with the outline of several people skating in the background.

Jacob Abbott [1803-1879], an innovative educator, was the creator of the Rollo series of children's books. The work at hand, "The Young Christian", published in 1832, was his first important work and was widely successful.

The owner's inscription is dated 1841, quite possibly suggesting the date of this edition.
