- sc Two paragraphs [54 words] typed in capital letters on an 8-1/2"x11" sheet of fine paper with a double ruled border at left and 2 neat holes punched through the left edge for binding into an album. Signed in full “Francis E. Resta” followed by his typed title "Major, Director of Music / United States Military Academy". Near fine.

The Military Academy band's tradition of commissioning pieces began with its sesquicentennial in 1952 when Francis Resta encouraged prominent composers of the day to write for the band. His efforts resulted in works by Robert Russell Bennett, Henry Cowell, Roy Harris, Erik Leidzen, Darius Milhaud and William Grant Still. The cornerstone of the sesquicentennial commissions was Morton Gould's Symphony for Band [West Point Symphony].
