- Small quarto [approximately 11-1/2 inches high by 8 inches wide], softcover bound in printed white wraps with a black-and-white illustration on the rear wrap, in a printed glassine dust wrapper with an illustration on the rear fold. The wraps are bumped. The dust jacket is lightly bumped with its top edge slightly chipped. [16] pages. Profuse black-and-white illustrations. The top page corners are lightly bumped. Very good. Arthur Siegel, who was born in Detroit, Michigan in 1913, studied photography at Wayne State University. In 1937, he won a scholarship to the New Bauhaus [later the Institute of Design, Illinois Institute of Technology] to study photography with Laszlo Moholy-Nagy and Gyorgy Kepes. He worked as a freelance photographer until Moholy-Nagy appointed him to head the new photography department at the Institute of Design, where he developed the "New Visions in Photography" course. He headed the department for three years, pursued freelance work for nearly twenty years and was then rehired as head of the department by Aaron Siskind. He continued teaching until his death in Chicago in 1978. A rare catalog.
