The binding is rubbed, bumped & slightly cocked. There is a white stain to the front cover & some black ink staining to the bottom edge of the front cover & to the spine. 254 pages. The front hinge is just starting. There is an owner's ink name & date on the flyleaf. There is light staining to the top corners of a number of pages with occasional light staining elsewhere in the book. Good. An early edition. Blanche Willis Howard [aka Blanche W. Teufel] was a best-selling American novelist who lived for most of her working life in southern Germany. "One Summer" [Boston, 1875], set in a coastal town in Maine, was her breakthrough novel. In 1877, she went to Germany on assignment for the Boston Evening Transcript and remained there for the rest of her life, settling in Stuttgart and opening a finishing school for young girls. She married Baron von Teufel, the court physician to King Charles I of Wurttemberg. She was the author of fourteen works, most of them novels. Price:
