- Quarto, dark blue cloth titled in gilt, in dw. Cocked; lightly bumped; top edge of front cover slightly faded. The dw is lightly chipped with the top edge slightly creased. 436 pp. Profusely illustrated in B&W & color. Very good. First edition. From the library of Fridolf Johnson with his book label on the front pastedown. A photocopied letter from the Society of Illustrators is laid in. This book is based upon the exhaustive bicentennial exhibition organized by the Society of Illustrators and shown at the New-York Historical Society. The works exhibited, most of which are reproduced in the book, ranged from a Paul Revere engraving to a painting by the Hildebrandt twins for their 1976 Tolkien calendar. Brief biographies of the artist-illustrators are included .

- 4to, blue cloth (very lightly bumped; top edges of covers slightly faded) titled in gilt on spine, in dw (rubbed & lightly chipped; dw spine slightly faded; extremities darkened). 207 pp. (edges of endpapers slightly faded). Profuse full-page & textual illustrations in B&W & color. Very good. Advance review copy from the library of bibliophile and pressman Fridolf Johnson inscribed to him by the author on Johnson's bookplate mounted on the front pastedown: "For Fridolf with friendship and admiration Henry C. Pitz". There is a handwritten note "Jacket by Fridolf Johnson" on the front flap of the dw. Laid in is the publisher's Review Copy slip, a leaflet (folded) advertising the book and a leaflet advertising a book on children's book illustration by Susan Meyer.
