(Roosevelt, Franklin Delano). 2 POSTAL FIRST DAY COVERS ISSUED TO COMMEMORATE PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. Very good - Includes:A FIRST DAY COVER COMMEMORATING THE "FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL STAMP ISSUE." 4 one cent green U.S. postage stamps illustrated with an oval portrait of FDR to the left of his Hyde Park home are mounted at the right of a 3-3/4 inch high by 6-1/2 inch wide white envelope. "Franklin D. Roosevelt Memorial Stamp Issue" is printed in green at the top left of the envelope above the Great Seal of the State of New York. A black & white photographic portrait of FDR is mounted within a decorative green frame set between 2 torches at bottom left. The cover has been postmarked from Hyde Park, NY on "Ju / 26 / 9:0 A.M. / 1945" with the "First Day of Issue" cancel mark in the middle of the stamps. A COVER COMMEMORATING THE "90TH BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY / FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT / January 30, 1882 - April 12, 1945." A three cent violet U.S. postage stamp illustrated with an oval portrait of FDR to the left of the White House and a five cent U.S. Postage stamp proclaiming "Toward United Nations April 25, 1945" are mounted at the right of a 3-3/4 inch high by 6-1/2 inch wide white envelope. "90th Birthday Anniversary" is printed in black at top left above an anchor crest bearing Franklin Delano Roosevelt's name. The President's birth and death dates appear underneath followed by a synopsis of the offices he held. The cover is postmarked from Hyde Park on Jan 30, 1972. Both covers are sealed with some light browning or offsetting to the flaps from the glue. Slightly soiled, though in quite nice condition. Price:

King, Wyncie (1884-1961); American illustrator and caricaturist. 4 ORIGINAL SIGNED PEN & INK WASH DRAWINGS FOR "RIDING BACKWARDS: THE MEMOIRS OF PRINCESS NIRA OF NEWDEAL", SATIRIZING MAJOR PLAYERS IN FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT'S ADMINISTRATION. [1935]. [1935]. Very good - What is offered here are 4 original pen & ink wash drawings by the caricaturist Wyncie King depicting members of FDR's administration. Each 5-3/4 inch high by 4 inch wide drawing is penned on separate 15 inch high by 10-1/4 inch wide Strathmore art board, two of which bear Strathmore's blind stamp. Each drawing is signed in ink by the artist Wyncie King and additionally captioned in pencil under the image.The drawings respectively depict Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins, here represented as "H.R.G. Grand Duchess Fanny Perkinsova" and depicted seated with a crown perching on her hat with a pearl necklace and military medals and ribbons adorning her dress. Signed by the artist, the drawing is further inscribed and signed "To Katharine Dayton with admiration and best wishes from Wyncie King". Vice President John Garner, here represented as "Prince Garneravitch, the Heir Apparent" is depicted with bushy eyebrows. Seated on a throne while holding a gavel, he is attired in Eastern European style military dress uniform with ribbons and medals. Postmaster General James A. Farley, here represented with the caption "Grand Duke Jaime de la Farlg, used to say that four out of five had pieorrhea". He is depicted in military dress uniform, serving a slice of pie as he holds a knife up in the other hand. This drawing is also further inscribed and signed "To Katharine Dayton with admiration and best wishes from Wyncie King". Donald Richberg, General Counsel of the National Recovery Administration (the NRA) is here represented as "The Dashing Spinach Grandee Senor Don Richeberg". He is also attired in military dress uniform with medals and ribbons, standing cap in hand with one fist resting on his hip. Though there are pinholes to the edges of the art boards with staining and darkening along the edges and some wear and damage to the corners, the original drawings are themselves mostly unaffected and in excellent condition. Katharine Dayton has penned her name and address on the verso of each of the boards with annotations penned in ink in her hand identifying the subject of each caricature and identifying these as "illustrations for my 'Memoirs of Princess Nira' Saturday Evening Post, K.D." Katharine Dayton's "Riding Backwards: The Memoirs of Princess Nira of Newdeal" was published in The Saturday Evening Post in 1935. John Garner was President Roosevelt's Vice-President from 1933 to 1941. Frances Perkins served as FDR's Secretary of Labor from 1933-45 and James A. Farley as Postmaster General from 1933-40. Donald Richberg, General Counsel of the National Recovery Administration (NRA) was often called the "Assistant President". A unique set of original cartoon art. Price:

A DEEPLY MOVING ORIGINAL PHOTOGRAPH OF PRESIDENT ROOSEVELT'S FUNERAL COFFIN BEING ESCORTED BY AN HONOR GUARD INTO THE WHITE HOUSE. Washington, D.C., April 14, 1945. 1945. Very good - A 14-1/4 inch high by 11-1/8 inch wide gelatin silver print depicting the famous image of President Roosevelt's flag-draped coffin being carried and escorted into the White House by an honor guard, as the horse-drawn funeral carriage draws away. Two marines bearing flags stand at the lower left of the image under the leafy branches of the tree which frames the left side of the photograph. The tree's branches reach out towards the columns of the White House's entrance which frame the right side of the image, balancing the somber scene. There are some very light creases to the lower and upper left margin and the upper right margin. The photographer's credit "Life Photo by Thomas McAvoy" is stamped in blue on the verso together with the date "Apr 15 1945", and Life's copyright information boldly stamped in purple. A powerful photograph. The photojournalist, Thomas D. McAvoy (1905-1966) was one of the first photographers to use a Leica for news coverage. He is well known for chronicling the Presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. Together with Margaret Bourke-White, Peter Stackpole and Alfred Eisenstaedt, he was one of the first photographers fo work for Life Magazine. Price:

Roosevelt, Franklin Delano. AN ORIGINAL VINTAGE CHRISTMAS CARD SENT OUT BY FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT AS GOVERNOR OF NEW YORK, ILLUSTRATED WITH A PHOTOGRAPH OF FDR WITH HIS FAMILY. New York State, [circa 1929-1932]. [circa 1929-1932]. Very good. - A 4-3/8 inch high by 5-1/2 inch wide vintage Christmas card on creamy white card stock illustrated with a 3 inch high by 4 inch wide black & white photograph depicting the future President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, as Governor, seated between his mother and a young woman with a child in her lap. Eleanor stands behind Franklin, her hands resting on the back of his chair and a young girl is seated in FDR's lap. FDR & Eleanor's family are standing behind him on the grand white columned porch. The photograph is framed within a decorative green, red & black floral border. Holiday greetings printed in italics inside the cardreads: "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from The Governor and Mrs. Roosevelt". There is a small stain to the bottom border under the image and in a corresponding place on the verso of the card. The top edge and corners are very slightly bumped. Very good. Together with an envelope with the name "Freda" [Freda Kirchwey?] penned in black ink in an unidentified hand. Price:

(Roosevelt, Franklin Delano). Shoumatoff, Elizabeth. COLOR COLLOTYPE PRINT OF THE SITTING PRESIDENT FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT AFTER THE PAINTING BY ELIZABETH SHOUMATOFF. (1943). (1943). Very good - A superb 10-1/2 inch high by 8-1/4 inch wide color portrait of FDR on 15-1/2 inch high by 12 inch wide heavy stock. The print, a color collotype by A. Jaffe" is entitled "Franklin D. Roosevelt / painted by Elizabeth Shoumatoff in April 1943". The superb image depicts a dignified white haired FDR from the chest up, attired in suit & tie over white shirt with a dark cape draped over his shoulders. There is some light foxing and discoloration to the ample borders and tape remnants on the verso. Very good. A rare portrait of the President. Elizabeth Shoumatoff was the painter of "the unfinished portrait of Franklin D. Roosevelt". A friend of Lucy Rutherford's, Elizabeth Shoumatoff, had been commissioned to paint a portrait of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Sketching the president as he chatted and read papers, Shoumatoff initially painted a small portrait of the President. It was agreed that the President would sit for her again at a later time and that she would then paint a much larger portrait. She was invited back to Warm Springs Georgia and arrived on April 9th, 1945, to spend the weekend and paint the larger portrait. At noon on April 12th, 1945, as she sketched and painted, the President reached for his head compaining of a terrible headache, collapsed and lost consciousness. FDR was pronounced dead at 3:35 p.m. Price:
