(New York): Bounty Books, (1970). - Quarto [approximately 12 inches high by 9 inches wide], cloth in a dust wrapper. The covers are lightly rubbed & unevenly faded. The tail of the spine is creased. The dust jacket is lightly soiled & chipped with a small piece out of the tail of the spine. The top & bottom edges are slightly creased. ix pages [prelims & introduction] plus a 246-page section of full-page black-and-white illustrations after engravings by Gustave Dore. Very good. - Octavo, printed cream wraps. Soiled; corners creased with small pieces out; spine creased with tears to top third. 556 & [1] pages, partially unopened. B&W portrait frontispiece & 28 B&W plates & full-page illustrations. The book is cracked at p. 204 & the page edges are slightly darkened. Overall, a good copy of a fragile and rare work.

Limited edition of 850 copies.

(Dore, Gustave; Tennyson, Alfred Lord). FOLIO ENGRAVING FOR THE FRONTISPIECE TO TENNYSON'S "IDYLLS OF THE KING" SIGNED BY GUSTAVE DORE AND ALFRED LORD TENNYSON.
[London: Moxon & Co., 1868].
SIGNED BY GUSTAVE DORE AND ALFRED LORD TENNYSON - A superb folio engraving drawn by Gustave Dore and engraved by W. Ridgway as the frontispiece for Moxon's 1868 edition of Tennyson's "Idylls of the King". The 9-1/2 inch high by 7-1/2 inch wide image printed on Chine depicts the poet surrounded by the principal characters drawn from his poems. Arthur, Gueneviere, and Merlin together with dragons, hound, knights, ladies, pages, and other characters from the legends frame the central portrait upon which sits a winged cupid. Lances and pennants are raised in the background. There is some minor light foxing to the print. A near fine, beautiful item.

Signed in pencil by Gustave Dore, Alfred Lord Tennyson and the engraver W. Ridgway.
