- (Study Score Series: Orchestral Works-Chamber Music No. 14). Octavo printed gray wraps. 98 pp. The wraps are lightly soiled with light creasing to the corners of the front wrap. Very good.

Signed by Lukas Foss on the front wrap.

"Song of Songs" was commissioned by the League of Composers for Ellabelle Davis. It was first performed on March 7, 1947 by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Serge Koussevitzky with Davis as the soloist.

Composer Lukas Foss was born in Berlin in 1922 and came to America with his parents in 1937. In 1953 he became a professor of composition and conductor of the university orchestra at the University of California, L.A. He has appeared as piano soloist in his own piano concertos and in classical concertos with many American orchestras. He began composing at a very early age, his first pieces being published when he was 15 years old.
