Hariot, Thomas. NARRATIVE OF THE FIRST ENGLISH PLANTATION OF VIRGINIA. By Thomas Hariot. First Printed at London in 1588 now reproduced after De Bry's illustrated edition printed at Frankfort in 1590 the illustrations having been designed in Virginia in 1585 by John White. London: Bernard Quaritch, 1893. 1893. Good - Small quarto, 8-3/4 inches high by 7 inches wide. Softcover, bound in printed tan wraps. The stained, chipped and torn covers are detached but present. Portions of the spine are lacking. The pagination is as follows: pp. [i]-vi, [2] pl. (one being an additional engraved title), pp. [7]-52 with [1] pl., plates I to XXIII (the first being a double-page map) with [23] leaves of descriptive text, and plates I to V with [5] leaves of text. Thus the volume is illustrated with a total of 30 plates, each printed on one side only, and a double-page map. The edges of the first and last few leaves are chipped, darkened and stained. A good complete copy. A wonderful 19th Century facsimile published by Quaritch of one of the earliest published books on the English colonies in America and on the Native American culture the settlers encountered. Price:
