- 12mo. A sheet of cream stock, 12 inches high by 8-1/4 inches wide, is folded twice to form 4 sides. Title & 2 pages of text plus colophon, printed in French fold with decorations in red. Near fine. "Printed by Betty & Ralph Sollitt / as a greeting to their friends / Christmas, 1942".

- Octavo. A sheet of grayish green stock [8-7/8 inches high by 11-1/8 inches wide] has been folded to form 4 sides with an illustration in black on green within a red frame on the first side and with Longfellow's poem printed within red frames on the remaining 3 sides, followed by a tail-piece on the fourth side. The top inch and the bottom half inch of the fold has split. The 2 outer sides are lightly soiled & foxed with remnants of glue on the fourth side along the fold. Good. Beneath the tail-piece is printed: "Presented to the public by a member of the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals". Longfellow's poem tells of a retired knight who abandons his horse to starve. In pulling on some vines in an attempt to get something to eat, the horse wakes up the townspeople by causing the alarm bell of Atri to ring--a bell which the king has decreed should be rung by anyone who has been wronged and who demands justice. The townspeople duly ask justice for the horse and instruct the knight to feed and house it for the rest of its life. The illustration on the first side, signed "Hollis" depicts the starving horse causing the great bell to ring. The tail-piece shows the wandering horse, the greedy knight counting his money, and the bell with a horse's head engraved on it. A scarce separate edition of Longfellow's poem in his slightly revised 1872 edition [BAL 12156].

- Small quarto [9-3/8 inches high by 6-3/4 inches wide], cream paper covered boards with a printed paper label on the spine. The binding is bumped & lightly soiled with some light staining to the front board. The label is chipped along the right side. 140 & [1] deckle-edged pages. Printed on fine Fabriano Watermarked paper. Illustrated with a pictorial colophon & decorative title page and with full-page & tipped-in facsimiles. There is foxing to the verso of the title page. Very good. Limited edition of 500 copies printed for members only. Among the contents are "The Last of the Household", an unpublished poem by Longfellow; "Aphorisms" by Henry D. Thoreau; "Enriched Books" by Brander Matthews; and "The True Bibliophile" an original poem written for the Bibliophile Society by Robert Underwood Johnson.
