- Small octavo, limp purple boards titled in black within a gilt rectangle on the front board. The spine & extremities are faded and the head & tail of the spine are chipped. The boards are lightly bumped with 2 brown stains to the rear board & some light staining to the front board. 17 & [1] pages. The front hinge is just starting. There is a tear to the front endpaper along the spine & a tiny tear to its front edge. The corners of the rear endpaper are creased. The page edges are slightly darkened. Good. First edition Henry Tuckerman was an American author, critic and essayist. He was prominent in New York literary circles from 1845. Scarce.

- Octavo, brown cloth titled in gilt on spine with decorations stamped in blind on both covers. The covers are bumped & rubbed. The spine is rubbed with the titling faded & small pieces out of the head & tail. The top inch of the rear joint is split. iv & 475 pp. & 4-page publisher's catalogue. There is a pencil name on the front endpaper & a red check mark on the rear endpaper. Some bottom page corners are creased & there are small stains to the title & a few other pages. Good. Essays on artists, politicians, scientists and others, among them Daniel Boone, Edmund Kean, Robert Fulton, Chateaubriand, De Witt Clinton, Jenny Lind, Giacomo Leopardi, John James Audubon, Massimo D'Azeglio, Charles Brockden Brown, Benjamin Franklin and John Constable.
