William [Willie] Morris [1934-1999] was a writer and editor, born in Jackson, Mississippi. He was known for his writing on the American South, especially the Mississippi Delta. He became the youngest editor of Harper's Magazine in 1967. He completed James Jones's "Whistle" after the death of his friend in 1977.
