1 McMullan, James. SIGNED LIMITED EDITION POSTER FOR THE 1994 LINCOLN CENTER THEATER PRODUCTION OF "RODGERS & HAMMERSTEIN'S CAROUSEL", SIGNED BY THE ARTIST.
[New York, 1994]. 1994]. Fine
SIGNED BY THE ARTIST JAMES McMULLAN - An original 46 inch high by 24 inch wide full color poster for the Lincoln Center Theater production of Carousel. The powerful illustration by James McMullan depicts a young man (Billy Bigelow?), attired in brown & blue tones, singing as he stands straddling two large black carousel horses. A dark grayish cloud appears to hover over the bright yellow background. Tiled along the top with "Rodgers & Hammerstein's" names in green above "Carousel" in brick red with golden yellow shadows. "Lincoln Center Theater" is drawn in blue with brown shadows along the bottom. There are a few minor creases to the edges. Near fine.

Number 105 of a limited edition of 1,000 copies numbered and signed in full by the artist James McMullan.

Nicholas Hytner's production of Carousel opened at London's Royal National Theatre in 1992. The production subsequently moved to New York's Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center. The already darker production, closer perhaps in tone to Ferenc Molnar's "Liliom' upon which it was based, made one change during the move. In this latest incarnation, Billy slaps Julie in the face rather than on the hand.
