Mishima, Yukio. SUN & STEEL. Translated by John Bester. (Tokyo): Kodansha International Ltd., (1970). (1970). Fine - Small quarto [9-5/8 inches high by 7-3/8 inches wide], dark orange cloth titled in gilt on the front cover & spine in a dust wrapper with a red paper band printed in Japanese wrapped around the covers and spine. The dust jacket is slightly rubbed with small areas of light staining to the top edges of the front panel & flaps & to the head of the jacket spine. 104 pages with a decorative band in red across the head of each page. Near fine in a very good dust wrapper. First edition in English. At one level [the book] may be read as an account of how a puny, bookish boy discovered the importance of his own physical being--the "sun and steel" of the title are themselves symbols respectively of the cult of the open air and the weights used in bodybuilding...At another level...it is a discussion of the relation between action and art.... More personally, it is an account of one individual's search for identity and integration..." [From the dust wrapper copy]. Price:
