[Sobolevsky, N.]. THE ART OF SOVIET PALEKH. [Moscow, 1958]. 1958]. Fine - Quarto, 15-1/2 inches high by 12-1/4 inches wide. A portfolio of 39 tipped-in plates, including 20 in color, mounted onto heavy green stock and laid loose with a 54-page text booklet, printed in Russian, French and English, into a red leatherette folding clamshell portfolio titled with floral gilt decorations on the front cover. The portfolio's black endpapers are each illustrated with an oval vignette. The white front cover of the booklet, which is titled in red, gilt and black, is very slightly soiled and bumped at the corners. The corners of the leatherette portfolio are also bumped and there is a 2 inch split along the bottom of the rear joint. The plates are near fine and the whole is housed in a bumped light green cloth covered slipcase which is splitting at the corners. Overall, very good. An attractively produced book of this Moscow exhibition of miniature and mural art by artists from Palekh. This village in the Ivanovo Region of the Soviet Republic was recognized for its Icon paintings and lacquered boxes. The style is evident in the paintings chosen for the exhibition. Price:
