- Quarto, paper covered boards backed with red cloth, in a dust wrapper. The boards are slightly warped & there is a piece out of the bottom corner of the rear board. The dust jacket is lightly soiled & chipped with a piece out of the bottom corner of the rear panel. The front fold is creased. 222 & [1] pages. The front endpaper is lightly soiled with an owner's address label in the top corner. There are light creases to the front edges of the leaves & there is a remainder mark on the bottom edge. Good. First edition.

- Quarto [approximately 11-1/4 inches high by 8-3/4 inches wide], black cloth with a black-and-white pictorial label mounted on the front cover. The binding is rubbed with light spotting to the front cover. There is some white staining to the inner edge of each cover along the tail of the spine. 31 pages, including 14 full-page black-and-white illustrations by Seymour Leichman. The contents are fine. Good. Signed in full by the author and the illustrator on the title page. The epigraph refers to a 1941 news item reporting the death of Sir Frederick Banting, the discoverer of insulin, in a plane crash in Newfoundland in which only the pilot survived. The pilot tells of the attempt of the dying scientist to dictate to him some message of great urgency.
