Vishniac made several trips to Eastern Europe in the 1930s, photographing children who were soon to be exterminated by the Nazis. The photographs are accompanied by nursery rhymes, songs, poems and chants for children's games in Yiddish with English translations.

The bottom corner of the rear cover is creased and the head of the spine is chipped. 176 unnumbered pages, with brief one-page biographical text on each of the photographers, followed by profuse full-page and occasional double-page black & white and color illustrations of their evocative works. A chronology for each photographer and a brief synopsis of each photograph portrayed in the book appears at the end. Very good. First edition, wraps issues of this powerfully illustrated work of socially conscious photographs. Inscribed and signed by the editor Cornell Capa on the half-title.
