Fine - Octavo, cloth, in a price-clipped dust wrapper. The covers are very slightly bumped. The dust jacket is lightly rubbed. The top edge of the rear fold is creased & there is spotting to the rear fold. There is a short tear to the tail of the jacket spine & another, along with some light creasing, to the bottom edge of the rear panel. xxxii & 370 pages. Black-and-white illustrations. Near fine in a very good dust wrapper. First edition of the first modern translation. Price: 17.50 USD

- Octavo, original printed wraps bound by Champs into three-quarter red morocco & marbled boards titled & decorated in gilt with raised bands on the spines. The top edges are gilt. The covers are slightly rubbed with slight wear to the corners. xxix, [i] & 386 pages; and [ii] & 452 pages. Illustrated with a full-page frontispiece and 31 fine textual etchings with tissue guards, including one illustrating the sample leaf bound in at the front. A discreet monogrammed book label is mounted on the verso of the front endpaper of each volume. Near fine.

Of a total edition of 500, this is one of 350 numbered copies on "velin de la cuve".

An original prospectus leaf for the book and a sample page, illustrated with an etching, are bound in at the front of the first volume.

From the library of the Princess di San Faustino who has signed her name in ink on the front blank of the first volume.
