Swift, Zephaniah. A SYSTEM OF THE LAWS OF THE STATE OF CONNECTICUT. In Six Books. (2 volumes). Windham: Printed for the author by John Byrne, 1795-1796. 1795-1796. Good - Octavo, full brown calf. The bindings are rubbed & bumped & the leather is scuffed with the heads & tails of the spines chipped. There is the remnant of a gilt-lettered label on the tail of the Vol. 1 spine. The remaining labels with the titling are lacking. vii & 452 pages; and v, 479 & [13] pages. The folding table is lacking. The bottom edge of the rear endpaper of Vol. 2 is chipped and there is scattered foxing & staining throughout both volumes. The pages are toned. Good. First edition of the first American law book. An impressive list of subscribers is given in the rear of Volume 2, including President George Washington, Vice-President John Adams, other members of the government and individuals from all the States in the Union. This copy is from the library of Daniel Elmer with his signature on the title page and the first text page of each volume and with his book label on the front pastedown of Vol. 2. Price:
