The boards are bumped & lightly rubbed & there is a small dent & tear to the top edge of the front board. Unnumbered pages, including profuse full-page illustrations in color & black-and-white by Fritz Busse. There is a small owner's stamp on the front endpaper & the page edges are darkened. A good copy of a charmingly illustrated book.

Printed in Germany and most probably published circa the 1940s-1950s.

The illustrations include two views of Churchill Hall, and views of the Stamford Country Club [golf course], Lake Utsayantha and Hager's Lake.

A sheet of cream stock, 11-3/4 inches high by 18-1/2 inches wide, has been folded to form 4 sides, the 4th side being blank. The pages are somewhat darkened & lightly soiled with some staining & light foxing & the 2 leaves are detached. The program has been folded horizontally 3 times & is extremely fragile with tears to the margins at the folds. Fair.

Most of the program is devoted to listing the various city, village and county officers, police, fire companies and military personnel who are to take part in a procession led by the Grand Marshal H. B. Duryea. This is to be followed in the evening by a fireworks display and the illumination of city buildings with various delegations reporting to City Hall and the County Court Rooms.

The wraps are bumped, chipped & unevenly darkened. There is staining to the bottom corner of the front wrap & there is a piece out of the top corner of the rear wrap. [vi] & pages 4331-4426 [95] pages]. The top page corners are lightly bumped, else the contents are bright & near fine. Very good.

A rare and possibly unique publication purchased from a Clearwater family member.

The Superintendant in charge of preparing these seventeenth- century records writes in his historical introduction: "The translated abstract of the Dutch records was prepared through the efforts of Hon. A. T. Clearwater, of Kingston, and others, who recognized in them a prolific source of reliable information concerning the trials and tribulations, habits and customs, of the hardy Dutch settlers of old Esopus. The Superintendant of this work is indebted to Judge Clearwater for his assistance in obtaining access to the records here indexed." The translation was made by a Mr. Veersteeg, the official translator of the Holland Society, and was completed in 1898.

- Original check [3-3/4 inches high by 6-3/8 inches wide] signed "Stephen Allen". Additionally signed by the Clerk and Comptroller. The check is somewhat darkened with 2 tiny pin pricks & a light vertical fold. Good.

The check for $6.51 is made out to H. W. Peckwell for "comfs [?] on Corpn Property Fulton Market and is endorsed by Peckwell on the verso.

Stephen Allen [1767-1852] was orphaned during the Revolutionary War and became an apprentice sailmaker at the age of twelve, living with other apprentices in a sail loft. He grew up to be a wealthy sailmaker and went into New York politics. He served as New York City Mayor from 1821 to 1824 and later as a member of the New York State Assembly and the New York State Senate. He died in the "Henry Clay" steamboat disaster on July 28, 1852.
