The blotters advertise Athlophoros for Rheumatism and Neuralgia, Athlo-Ointment for Sprains, Lameness, Sore throat, etc., and Athlo-Tablets for Constipated Rheumatics. There are creases to the corners, with some particularly heavy creasing & bumping to the bottom left corner of the blotter sheet. Good.

The binding is rubbed with small pieces out of the cloth at the corners & edges. The backstrip is lacking. 78 pages. Illustrated with 8 black-and-white plates, including a portrait frontispiece. The endpapers & the edges of the pastedowns are darkened and the rear hinge is just starting. The page edges are slightly darkened. A good reading copy.

"Reprinted, with corrections and additions, from the Biographical History of Gonville and Caius College." John Caius was a sixteenth-century physician, appointed physician to Edward VI and Elizabeth I. While attending to his busy practice in London around the middle of the century, he conceived the idea of enlarging "that pore howse now called Gonville Halle" so as to make it almost a new college, a project to which he donated both land and money. He became the master of the college in 1559.

John Venn, the author of this biographical sketch was the British mathematician and logician who invented the Venn diagram. Dust jacket present.

Much of the content of this almanac consists of ads for Herrick's Family Medicines and paragraphs on diseases with the appropriate Herrick's remedies. Even the rhymes and anecdotes promote the medicines. For example, in "The Love Songs of the Japs", the Japanese girl with a headache and dyspepsia pines for the arrival of her lover to cure her, while the sensible American girl asks for Herrick's Liver Pills.

An introduction extolling Durr's service to its customers is followed by seven brief stories of doctors who went beyond the call of duty to serve their patients. Each story is accompanied by a striking color illustration.

The text above the oval illustration reads: "This Plaster is One Week's Treatment Only / Raymond's Pectoral Plaster...." The plaster is then laid into printed light green wraps, titled with a photographic illustration on the front cover. Directions for use are printed in English, German, French, Italian and an Eastern European language on the remaining 3 pages. The wraps are creased, soiled and chipped with several small tears. Very good in good wraps.

Also included are extracts from two unpublished texts by Schweitzer, "Discours sur Goethe" [1928] and "Discours d'Oslo" [1954]. The text is in French.
