Text printed in French and English.
The work of Lebanese painter Wajih Nahle [born Beirut 1932] is based on the forms of Arab calligraphy. "Moslems and non-Moslems agree in recognizing the beauty of Arab writing but...don't agree on the meaning of this beauty. The first consider it a symptom of divine perfection, the others as [an] intrinsic property of the form of this writing. Wajih Nahle attempted with success to conciliate these two views, to elaborate a concept of graphical beauty on which everybody would agree."--From the English translation of the text. Dust jacket present.
