The covers are bumped & rubbed & the covers of Vol. 2 are somewhat warped. xvi & 412 pp. & 4-page publisher's catalogue; and viii & 414 pp. & 2-page publisher's catalogue. The page edges are slightly darkened. The rear hinge of Vol. 1 is cracked. The front hinge of Vol. 2 is cracked & the rear hinge just starting & there is a small area of dampstaining to the top of the fore-edge. The set was deacquisitioned from the Porter School Library with the Porter School library label mounted on the front pastedown of each volume. Good.

Sarah Porter's copy signed by her in full in pencil in both volumes on the versos of the endpapers..

Educator Sarah Porter [1813-1900] was the sister of Noah and Samuel Porter. She founded Miss Porter's School for Girls in Farmington, Conn. in 1843.
