- Small quarto, 9-1/4 inches high by 8-7/8 inches wide. Bound in light brown limp suede leather, titled in gilt on the front cover and the spine with the title within a decorative gilt frame on the front cover. A running black ruled frame further decorates the covers. The top edge is gilt and the endpapers are marbled. The suede is rubbed and soiled and the overlapping yapp edges of the covers are chipped with small pieces out. The head and tail of the spine are chipped. 286 pages, illustrated with a photogravure portrait frontispiece. The text block is cracked following the front blank and there is some occasional minor foxing. Good. Limited edition of 500 numbered copies. Though not called for, this copy is inscribed and signed in ink by the author Charles Brodie Patterson under the frontispiece portrait. The Canadian expatriate New Thought publisher and author Charles Brodie Patterson (1854-1917) was considered one of the movement's leaders. Born in Nova Scotia, he moved to Connecticut to receive treatment from a mental healer and subsequently studied at the Mental Science Institute and the Alliance of Divine Unity. He founded the Metaphysical Alliance of Hartford in 1888 and, in 1893, opened the Alliance Publishing Company in New York City. He edited several periodicals including the Library of Health Journal, Mind Magazine, and Arena and published works by metaphysical authors including Horatio Dresser, Ursula Gestefeld, and Augustus Le Plongeon. Patterson served as president of the International New Thought Alliance, the International Metaphysical League and the New Thought Federation. RARE.
