When he was but 9 years old Peter Maverick published his first work. After first founding his own business in NYC, he moved to Newark, New Jersey in 1809, setting up shop in that city while maintaining a presence in New York. The Hudson River School painter and engraver Asher B. Durand, a student of Maverick's, worked as his apprentice and subsequently became his partner in 1817. Returning to NYC in 1820, Maverick took up lithography and produced the plates for the 1824 "Annals of the Lyceum of Natural History of New York". [Felcone "New Jersey Books, 1801-1860" item #839].
